Upcycled art has been all the rage for in recent years, offering a plentiful supply of raw material for work and making a commitment to reducing the amount of stuff that goes into the waste stream.
The Geauga Park District is making its contribution with its discARTed Recycled Art Exhibition at its West Woods Nature Center, with more than 200 works on display, including functional items, decorative work and youth art, all made from found and/or discarded materials.
“DiscARTed is a challenge to the community to ‘think outside the trash can,’ utilizing cast-off materials in the creation of decorative and functional artwork,” says Geauga Parks District special events coordinator Teresa Runion in the event press release. “Works created from recycled materials are carriers of memory and history, containing vestiges of their former function into new art. The possibilities for raw materials are endless!”
At the opening you can meet the artists, enjoy refreshments and, to extend the recycling concept, live music played on instruments made from repurposed materials.
The show remains on view through Mon 4/15.
In conjunction with this wonderful community event Artisans’ Corner is hosting the discARTed boutique. featuring many works of recycled or up-cycled works of art for sale. Visit the gallery during the duration of this show and find that unique work!
