Pottery
Ceramics is a primary field of art to me as I am tuned into its innate linkwith the earth, and I hold a respect for its stability of existence. My creative styles range from functional to sculptural. I find myself creating work in small series, but maybe pieces still emerge as “one of a kind”. It is a nice balance between exploring an idea of technique and allowing items to come as they do singularly. There is a content moment of joy with each piece when I hold it as dry, unfired greenware. It is fragile and beautiful in this state. Into the kiln it goes, and out it comes as ceramic, ready for glaze.
I always considered art as a true part of my life, and a guiding force for my personal life and career. After graduating from Grand Valley High School, I received an Associate of Art from Lakeland COmmunity College, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Ceramics from Kent State University. I’ve lived in Newbury for over 20 years, and I enjoy teaching at various Art Centers in Ceramics and Children’s Art. I currently serve as Program Director at Fairmount Center for the Arts.
