I enjoy working in the old medium of enamel (glass on metal), where a variety of techniques continually draw me in. The depths within the transparency of the fired ground glass and layering of the enamels grabbed me from the first time that I worked in it over thirty years ago. I can easily fire a plate up to twelve times to achieve my designs. The added intrigue of the metal bases (cooper, fine silver, or steel) and variations that come with the choice of the metal base only expands the world of enamel. The metal base and the enamels’ reflective qualities lead me off and at times becomes distracting with so many possibilities and the combination of techniques. Lately, I am using precious metal clay and another template for the enamel.
